Mobile phones have truly become the universal gadgets, since they’re seemingly able to control any device or process now. Now, they’re even able to control water pumps remotely in India, with the aid of local carrier Tata Teleservices and agri-tech company Ossian Agro.
Using their service, farmers can control and switch on irrigation pumps from the distance, instead of walking to them for kilometres. The system used by farmers is called Nano Ganesh and allows them to dial a code from any handset, while a mobile modem is attached to the pump’s starter and receives the signal.
Ossian Agro developed this system, that’s being tested right now in 2 villages in the Gujarat region. People will have to pay $56 for the wireless device connected to the pump’s starter.
