AT&T was among the companies who had press conferences today at CES 2013 and theirs included the announcement of a handset, the Pantech Discover. This smartphone will hit the shops on January 11th and it will be priced at $50, on contract obviously.
The Korean maker Pantech is famous for models like Burst and Flex, that have proved to be solid over the past years and stood out from the US carrier’s offer. Anyway, the newcomer, Discover is actually a biggie, with a 4.8 inch 720p screen, 13 megapixel camera at the back, 2 megapixel front camera and a 1.5 GHz dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor. It also has NFC, Android 4.0 and a 2100 mAh battery.
The design reminds us a bit of the Sony Xperia Arc, which is a compliment, since we haven’t seen those sexy curves anywhere since the days of Sony Ericsson. As far as software goes, Pantech Discover has the same Easy Experience Mode preloaded as the Flex model, plus the AT&T DriveMode app, that will send auto replies to texts when you’re driving. The phone does 1080p video capture, has HDR, a 2 megapixel front cam, DLNA, dual 3D Surround sound, 16 GB of storage, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS.
