ASUS just broke the 6 GB RAM barrier on smartphones, by introducing the very first phone with 8 GB of RAM. It’s dubbed ASUS ZenFone AR and it comes with Project Tango cameras at the back. This 5.7 inch phablet has a fingerprint scanner and solid specs, so let’s check them out.

ASUS ZenFone AR offers a Quad HD resolution, a Snapdragon 821 processor and 3 back cameras. There’s a main 23 MP shooter with Sony IMX 318 sensor, plus a motion tracking and depth sensing camera. The Google Project Tango setup lets you create indoor, 3D Maps and use a variety of AR apps, with 35 available for now. ASUS demoed at CES 2017 a way to shop for clothing with the official GAP AR app.

Aside from the crazy 8 GB of RAM and the nifty Tango cameras, this smartphone has a Super AMOLED panel with a 79% screen to body ratio and Daydream support, so VR will also be a thing here. Android Nougat is the OS of choice and the main camera offers both OIS, EIS and 4K video. The product will get released in the second quarter of the year and price is yet unknown, but we expect it to be higher than $500 for sure.
