After rumors saying that we are about to get new iPhone X colors and people feeling let down that there’s no RED iPhone X, turns out we are going to get a gold version of the device. The device somehow got to the FCC and more importantly it managed to leak from there, which doesn’t quite happen to Apple products.

This is supposed to be the third color option for the iPhone X and it actually appeared in rumors last year. Apple only stuck with two finishes: Space Grey and Silver. The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 were revealed with a gold finish however. Apple didn’t comment on its decisions, but leaks show that the iPhone X gold was in the making, albeit its production wasn’t going so well.

Turns out that production issues plagued it, because stainless steel and gold hue don’t mix well. That’s why it was no ready for a 2017 release. Apple did have a device of the sort certified by the FCC and we get to see it here. Documents were processed all the way back in September 2017 and Apple had them ready as early as July last year. Of course FCC had to hide them on account of a 180 day confidentiality clause.

Now that the time frame is passed, it’s leak time. Previous rumors have talked about a so called “Blush Gold” phone, that will be more coppery than the traditional Apple gold hue. We may end up with a gold iPhone X plus come this fall, but don’t hold your breath for that either.
