It’s been a while since Google had a major failure like this! Yesterday, between 9:30 a.m. EST and 10:25 a.m. EST, Google showed the message “This site may harm your computer” for EVERY search result you got and this problem affected the users worldwide. The big G blames this issue on human error and they’ve already apologized for the bug.
Somebody even managed to capture the glitch on “tape”, posting it on YouTube:
Usually, Google relies on a list of potentially malicious sites, created by StopBadware.org, a nonprofit initiative led by Harvard and Oxford scholars. It turns out that on Saturday, Google applied one of the list updates by mistake and labelled all of the URLs as potentially harmful. The glitch was only effective for 40 minutes and then disappeared.
Looks like somebody’s going to get fired, right?
