Japan’s got a new thing coming, since NEC, Hitachi and Casio have decided to form a mobile joint venture, a superpower of the companies in this segment. Casio and Hitachi have already fused their mobile units back in 2004, so NEC is the missing piece of the puzzle.
It’ll all be about research and development, extra costs and development, plus a new player on the mobile market. The deal will close in April 2010, making the newly formed company the second largest in Japan, behind Sharp.
It’ll be interesting to see Fujistu working with the new giant, or competing against it, but the good news is that the resulting superpower might aim to sell its products in Europe and the US as well.
