Chenming Mold Industrial is a Taiwanese company that creates handset chassis, which combine metal and plastic together. Supposedly, this company has received orders from HTC, for a new smartphone, according to sources close to the matter. Chenming chairman Mu-ho Lin declined to comment on this info for now.

The technology that combines metal with plastic is already certified by a couple of first grade phone vendors and will go to the mass market in July. Most of the metal chassis processing is done through the CNC lathe machines and the result is a tough material, that’s also pretty slim. In the past such technologies gave birth to thicker materials, due to the metal and plastic layers that were held together.

NMT (NanoMolding) technology is a simple process, with low costs, so expect other companies to also jump on board.
