The Huawei Ascend P2 has been caught on camera again, after also being leaked last week and this week’s leak has… leaks of water all over it. The idea of showing the phone soaked is to show its waterproof abilities. This means you can drop the handset in a pool or dirt after a long rain and still be able to tap its screen and play Angry Birds on it.
According to a message posted on Chinese social network Weibo over the Chinese New Year, the handset will dust proof and water resistant, complying with the IP54 standards. The device will debut at MWC 2013 later this month and rumors say it may come with an 8 core CPU, 2 GB of RAM and a 13 megapixel camera at the back. We’re also expecting a slim design, although I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a P2 S out there to slim it even more.
Lots of phones from Asia come with water resilience and dust proof abilities and even big brands like Sony, Samsung or Fujitsu have tackled that area. Now Huawei is doing that as well, although I can’t imagine anyone dropping a $600+ handset with an 8 core CPU in water after spending so much on it. I guess it’s more of a rain/storm protection than actual pool dropping…
