Before you start upgrading your iPhone 3G to the latest software version, you might be wondering what new features it brings to Apple’s popular device. Well, this free update brings you Google Street View, public transit and walking directions, location sharing via email and an improved version of Safari.

Call setup failures will appear less frequently and so will dropped calls, while the email features have also been improved (no more email fetching issues and better formatting of wide HTML email). Also, the 2.2 software brings podcasts that are now downloadable via iTunes (WiFi/cellullar network).

iPhone 3G users will notice the improved sound quality of Visual Voicemail messages and the fact that if they press the Home button from any Home screen, they’ll go back to the first Home screen. Finally, the auto-correction can be turned on and off from the Keyboard Settings menu, a feature that some have been dying to take advantage of.
