After seeing a bunch of iPhone HD concepts, a supposed leaked display of the next-gen iPhone and a couple more rumours, it’s time to have a look at the info concerning iPhone OS 4.0. AppleInsider recently published a report showing what the most popular rumours about this new software are.

Turns out that the new OS will come with multitasking, thanks to an UI feature that reminds us of Expose. The latter is a way of showing users what apps are open, by displaying thumbnail images of contents of each individual app window, thus easing navigation. Since the next gen iPhone’s screen will be about 3.7 or 4 inches in diagonal, it’ll be tough to implement this feature on the device.

Till now Apple used applications icons specifically to avoid chaos and a crowded on screen environment, but it’s time for a new approach. Back to the iPhone OS 4.0, rumour has it that it’ll use a single inbox for all email accounts and it’ll support contact adding to the Homescreen. No info on the announcement of the new software, although we can estimate it’ll happen in May/June.
