China Mobile is the world’s largest carrier, with an impressive 610 million subscribers (recorded in March 2011), but incredibly enough they don’t sell the most famous phone of the last years, the iPhone. Each year we hear rumors about Apple and this carrier discussing possible iPhone launches, but each time we’re left with the rumors…
This time there’s also a leaked image, showing an iPhone on China Mobile’s network. This is supposed to be a next-gen prototype that uses the 3G network of the Chinese carrier and it appears that the handset runs baseband software with the version number 06.10.01, that’s not yet released. No trace of IMEI number, just like that iPhone 4 prototype that appeared on eBay a while ago.
Maybe the author of the leak is on to something and Apple will finally bring the iPhone 4 to China Mobile’s 3G TD-SCDMA network, before launching a 4G iPhone. We remind you that this is the same mobile operator that confirmed a partnership with Apple related to the development of the local TD-LTE network.
