We’ve been hearing a lot of rumors about Lenovo’s potential acquisition of BlackBerry, all of them denied and them reappearing straight from a Lenovo official’s mouth. Today, we get another rumor, saying that Lenovo is looking into buying NEC, a pretty major Japanese phone maker.

All we know about NEC is that they have the Medias phone series, some models with high end features and some models with unusual designs. This company usually brings to CES and MWC some dual display phones, that never make it to the global market, instead launching locally. Lenovo may be making some phones, but they’re not as pretty or well specced as NEC’s, so that’s why this rumor makes sense.

Buying the company would give them access to new and improved technologies and also NEC’s mobile unit is for sale right now, since it’s in deep trouble. Reuters claims that someone close to the situation confirmed this and the Lenovo involvement. Lenovo is all about Intel-based smartphones right now, so let’s see how NEC can play into this…
