MediaTek recently detailed an interesting feature of its MT6795 chipset: the ability to create ultra slow motion videos, at 1/16 speed. This way, Mediatek is responsible with a world premiere, since no other chip maker has delivered 480 FPS capture or playback.

The chip also brings support for 2K resolution and it’s a 64 bit chip with a frequency going up to 2.2 GHz. The chipset is said to include 8 Cortex A53 cores, but in the end they may be Cortex A57 ones, so that’s not clear yet. Phone makers are happy that MediaTek’s chips now support Quad HD screens, meaning we may see even high end phones this year with MediaTek chips.

Also, the MT6795 offers 120 MHz screen refresh rate support and intelligent video ClearMotion multiplier frame interpolation. H.265 Ultra HD recording and decoding are also on the list. With Samsung unveiling a 14 nm chip and Qualcomm struggling to shake off the bad PR of the Snapdragon 810, Mediatek has all the reason to go all out this year.
