Alcatel debuted today two new smartphones at MWC 2016, part of the Idol series. The newcomers are the Alcatel Idol 4 and Alcatel Idol 4S, both with flagship specs and excellent acoustics. Their designs feel like a combo of the Galaxy S6 and the Xperia Z power key.
These models can operate in both vertical orientations, horizontally and even turned around. Courtesy of JBL and Waves technology, we get great acoustics, with powerful 3.6 Watt speakers included, HiFi surround sound and optimization of audio presets. Alcatel Idol 4 measures 7.1 mm in thickness and integrates a 5.2 inch Full HD screen with an IPS LTPS panel.
Specs include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 processor, 3 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage, plus a microSD card slot. There’s a 13 MP back camera and a front 8 MP selfie cam with flash. Connectivity is of the LTE Category 6 kind and there’s a 2610 mAh battery inside.
Alcatel Idol 4S has a 5.5 inch Quad HD AMOLED screen, a 6.99 mm thin body and a Snapdragon 652 processor. The storage goes up to 32 GB, we get a 3000 mAh battery and a special physical key called Boomkey. It can be mapped to trigger a variety of features, like shooting photos from standby and optimize audio with one press, as well as release Nitro in Asphalt games.
Alcatel included another interesting aspect here, making the boxes of the devices ready to be turned into Google CardBoard-style VR headsets.
