Xolo Mobile India has just announced a new budget phone, that costs less than $100: Xolo A550s. The newcomer is a dual core dual SIM unit with a price tag of merely $96. This budget device runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and relies on a dual core chip.

The design is pretty basic, with a big top and bottom bezel and a 4 inch screen upfront, plus a back that seems to imitate the leather texture of the latest Samsung products. Xolo A550s has 3 capacitive buttons below the display and offers 3G on one of the SIM slots and 2G support on the other one. It measures 9 mm in thickness and its 4 inch screen provides a resolution of 480 x 850 pixels, on an IPS panel.

There’s support for a KitKat update and this model has a CPU that’s clocked at 1.3 GHz, although its maker is unknown. There’s a Mali 400 GPU on board, 512 MB of RAM as well, 4 GB of ROM and a microSD card slot with support for up to 32 GB of storage. We’ve got a 5 MP shooter at the back with a single LED flash and a front VGA cam, as well as an accelerometer, proximity sensor and ambient light sensor.
