A recent look into the Indonesian Communication Agency filing of new products reveals an interesting Nikon camera running Android. The filing was done on July 31st 2012 and the product is Nikon Coolpix S800 or S800c. We’re dealing with an Android-based compact camera, a premiere in the world of devices.

The gadget uses a 25-250 mm lens, a 3.5 inch OLED screen and I doubt it will be able to make calls, so it’s probably just a camera, not a cameraphone. It’s also able to run all Google Play apps, it’s based on Android 2.3 according to inside info and has GPS and WiFi. The possible announcement date is August 22, 2012. There will be a potential announcement during the upcoming Photokina event, that should take place around the rumored time frame.

Since this is a compact camera, one can only hope that in the future Nikon will also release DSLRs with Android and maybe even cameraphones or tablets for advanced photo/taking and editing, but that’s just a wet dream now…
