Nokia just made it official that it acquired Symbian Limited. The handset producer now has a valid acceptance of greater than 99.9% of the total Symbian shares that it did not already own. Almost unanimous acceptance.
Symbian is the software company that develops and licenses Symbian OS, the market-leading open operating system for mobile devices. All Symbian employees will become Nokia employees on February 1, next year.
With this offer closed, Nokia makes one more step in making the Symbian Foundation real. On its side, in this foundation, there are also AT&T, LG Electronics, Motorola, NTT DOCOMO, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, ST-NXP Wireless, Texas Instruments and Vodafone.
