Nokia has just announced the Lumia 610 NFC handset and just as the name says, this is the NFC version of the low end Windows Phone model. The announcement came at the WiMA NFC in Monaco, a congress meant for global NFC applications and services. Orange will be the carrier to offer this device on the market, starting with Q3 2012.
The NFC feature allows for seamless connections with NFC accessories and the ability to read NFC tags, plus perform NFC payments and rely on ticketing solutions. Nokia Lumia 610 NFC is certified for contactless payments on MasterCard (PayPass solution) and on Visa’s mobile app for payments, Visa PayWave. Windows Phone doesn’t support NFC right now, so Nokia had to come in and offer a special software built on top. Nokia Lumia 610 NFC is the eight NFC smartphone that Nokia introduced over the last 2 years.
The rest of the specs of the Windows Phone device remain unchanged, including the 3.7 inch 480 x 800 pixel display, 8 GB of storage, 256 MB of RAM, HSDPA 7.2 Mbps, 5MP camera, 800 MHz CPU and A GPS. There’s also a Li-Ion 1300 mAh battery on board, good enough for 10 hours of talk time.
