Last night the Chinese company OnePlus announced its latest flagship device called OnePlus 5. Finally, after a lot of leaks and teasers we have the real phone to talk about. So the first thing you should know is that this time we’re getting a different design compared to the previous OnePlus phones, design that seems borrowed from iPhone 7 Plus.

A unibody metal casing is found here and we’re getting a 2.5D glass on top of the front facing panel. From the dimensions point of view, this phone weighs about 153 grams and measures 7.25 mm in thickness – being the slimmest OnePlus phone to date. Two colors will be available for the moment: Midnight Black and Slate Gray.

Getting to the hardware you should know that even with this 2017 smartphone, we’re still getting a Full HD display, a 5.5 inch AMOLED one to be specific. In spite of the common resolution, this panel offers sRGB and DCI-P3 support and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. As you can see, there’s some slim bezels around the display, but the screen to body ratio stops at 73%.

Inside we have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, 6 or 8 GB of LPDDR4X RAM memory and 64 or 128 GB of internal storage. There’s no microSD card slot here and the phone brings however a 3.5 mm audio jack. We get a USB Type-C port at the bottom, 4G LTE connectivity, fingerprint scanner and dual-SIM support (2x nano-SIM).

One of the biggest updates is the dual  camera on the back. This packs a 16-megapixel main Sony IMX398 sensor with f/1.7 aperture + EIS + PDAF and a secondary 20 megapixel sensor with f/2.6 aperture and telephoto lens. This means we can create bokeh in our photos and also to benefit from the 2x optical zoom feature.

For selfies there’s a 16 megapixel camera and in case you’re wondering, inside the phone we have a 3300 mAh battery. Dash Charge is here and apparently the lifetime of this battery is up to 20% higher than the one found on OnePlus 3T. Android 7.1.1 Nougat is running here and one last thing you should know is that we’re getting a mute switch on the side.

OnePlus 5 gets priced at $479 for the basic variant with 6 GB RAM + 64 GB of storage, while the 8 GB RAM + 128 GB internal storage model goes up for $539 in US. You can order the OnePlus 5 right now from here by using the following code: Clearer Photos.
