This section on Opera’s home page shows that on June 8 we’re going to see Opera Mobile 9.7 (Turbo) making its long-awaited debut. It’ll bring a faster rendering engine to the browser scene, based on built-in graphics acceleration made possible on modern smartphones. Check out the browser in action in the video below:
The most important feature in Opera Mobile 9.7 is Opera Turbo, that accelerates the browsing experience by reducing bandwidth consumption with 80%. This compression technology is used on Opera Mini and Opera Mobile 9.7 will come with full web browsing plus Turbo features.
The new software also brings Opera Widgets, the Presto 2.2 rendering engine, also used in the Opera 10 desktop browser and Google Gears, plus OpenGL ES support for smoother scrolling, panning and a fluid UI.
