Oppo debuted the R9 and R9 Plus handsets this month in China and their first day of sale seems to have been excellent. Oppo moved over 180.000 units of these smartphones in just 24 hours.

They used both online and offline channels for sales, plus a big marketing campaign was in place at the time. Big Chinese celebrities were used to promote the phones, so everyone was hyped about them. There were queues at dedicated stores and it’s interesting to see this popularity surge, considering these models aren’t exactly cheap.

For example the Oppo R9 retails for $430 in China, while the Oppo R9 Plus costs a bit more. Both new phones clearly stand out of the crowd for their selfie prowess, courtesy of 16 megapixel front cameras. VOOC fast charging is appearing here and the 4 GB of RAM plus capable CPUs (Snapdragon 652 and Helio P10) sure sound good.

To top it all, these are also very slim phones, with appealing metal designs.
