The first estimations about 2017 are in and Chinese firms are doing mighty fine, with Oppo and Vivo ready to perform in excellent fashion. Turns out that Oppo and Vivo together are said to be ready to ship over 150 million smartphones this year.
Sources from the industry in Taiwan and China are cautious about this numbers, since they’re “Huawei-big”, so to say. Oppo and Vivo’s strategy involved retail/distribution channels in tier 2 and tier 3 cities in China and that worked just fine in 2016, but now they want more. Oversea market boosts are expected, especially in emerging markets.
The problem is that smartphone inventory levels are already high in China at the moment, which may undermine demand. A more achievable target for the current year is somewhere around 120 million or 100 million units, claimed the sources. Oppo and Vivo also had strong marketing campaigns last years, with their phones featured in popular flicks like Captain America: Civil War, so expect more stunts like that.
While Vivo is betting big on dual front camera phones, Oppo has high end flagships with affordable prices.
