Polaroid is still alive in spite of what some of you may think. They’ve understood that the smartphones are now at the top of the camera food chain and they’re proceeding accordingly. Thus, they’ve debuted a new handset accessory during a special show in Japan, called Giftex 2015.

The new accessory is a clip on smartphone lens, nicknamed “Polalens”. The module is sandwiched by a clip and can be easily mounted on the handset. The lenses embedded within the module have been subjected to a multi coating process, that reduces reflection and allows the device to reproduce a more natural hue. There’s a wide angle lens in the mix, a CW67 and a close up lens, CL3.

Variations include a 150 degree wide angle lens (CW40) or 180 degree fisheye lens (CF180), plus the ultra fisheye lens CF238, with 230 degrees of viewing. That’s a pretty big distortion, that may create some cool effects on your iPhone or iPad. too bad we don’t have prices…
