Qualcomm has just announced a new generation of the Snapdragon CPU series, one that prides on lower power consumption and high performance. Known as the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4, the new SoC solution involves a 28nm manufacturing technology and the already famous Qualcomm Krait CPU.
There’s also a new GPU, the Adreno 225, that we’ll detail later on. A 28nm chipset means that you’ll get the same performance from a smaller piece of hardware and this certainly surpasses the latest such technology, the 45nm one. The Krait CPU architecture means a boost of 60% from the current Scorpion lineup.
Clock speeds will range from 1.5 to 2.5GHz out of the box, surpassing all current CPUs. The new Adreno 225 GPU gets a 50% performance increase compared to the 220 line and also the 225 will come with DirectX 9.3 for Windows 8. OpenGL ES 1.1 and 2.0 are also supported, as well as multi mode world connectivity and LTE of up to 100Mbps in speed. Simultaneous GPS and GLONASS localizing will be available, so this is also a boost.
And now let’s see a launch date!
