On Wednesday Google announced the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update at I/O 2012 and now we’re waiting for the first release dates of the software. It appears that HTC and Samsungwill make some announcements on that front soon enough. Anyway, till then you should know that the first devices to receive the latest Android will be the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Nexus S and Motorola Xoom in mid July.

Other models will also get the Jelly Bean update soon after and I suspect that the Galaxy Tab 2 units and Galaxy Note, for example are on the list. Recent rumors said that the Galaxy S II may not receive Jelly Bean, that would be a huge bummer, although I don’t believe those rumors. HTC also declared that it’s excited as far as Android 4.1 goes and will support it on a variety of devices. The Taiwanese company is reviewing the software right now and promised to get back to use with an upgrade schedule.

Since Jelly Bean is basically an upgrade on top of Android 4.0 and not a real major update, it should go faster than the move from Gingerbread to ICS. Hopefully we won’t have to wait till this fall or winter before getting our updates…
