Samsung’s Exynos 7420 is a hugely powerful mobile CPU at the moment, with very few rivals, if any on handsets. Well, there’s an even more powerful generation coming, the Mongoose chipset, that has already been tested and found to be very powerful in benchmarks. The leak comes from China and involves GeekBench tests.

Mongoose is said to go from the octa core setup of the Exynos 7420 to a quad core one and it will bring Samsung’s custom cores with a ton of firepower in the mix. The clock speed for each of the cores is 2.4 GHz, but it goes down in power saving modes. With regular usage, Mongoose scores 2136 points in the single core GeekBench test and 7497 in the multi core one and considering the Exynos 7420 scores 1486/4970 (single/multi core), the difference is huge between them.

Even in Power Saving Mode, the scores are good: 1698/5263 points, while in Super Power Saving Mode we scored 1323/3489 points. This in house chipset seems very powerful and it may just be the core of the Galaxy S7, rumored to come earlier than usual. It may also arrive in later 2016, so take everything with a big grain of salt.
