As expected, Samsung unveiled today the Galaxy Note 7, its long awaited and leaked summer phablet. It’s the follow-up to the Galaxy Note 5 and it’s filled to the brim with novelty and some elements from the Galaxy S7.
So, first thing first, it’s waterproof and dust proof, within the IP68 certification and a cool feature is that the S Pen can write on the screen underwater. It’s got a HDR Super AMOLED 5.7 inch screen with a Quad HD resolution and relies on a Snapdragon 820 or Exynos 8890 CPU, depending on the region, as well as 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage.
There’s a microSD card slot here and a new color version called Blue Coral. Samsung Galaxy Note 7 has a metal frame, that’s sandwiched between two Gorilla Glass 5 panels. The screen we mentioned above curves on both sides like a Samsung Edge model and it also features HDR support, a function that allows the panel to show more colors and it’s borrowed from 4K TVs, also showing scenes with very high contrast.
The S Pen is said to have a “ballpoint style experience”, leaving notes on the Always on screen. Its new features include a text magnifier, a translation tool and a GIF creator. Another novelty is the iris scanner, that’s added to the fingerprint scanner. It also lets you access Samsung Pay, Know and secure folders on your device.
This phablet is also a premiere, since it’s the first Samsung phone with an USB Type C port, while also not forgetting about fast charging through it. Inside there’s a 3500 mAh battery, with fast wireless charging support. At the back and front we get the same camera combo from the S7, a 12 megapixel Dual Pixel unit and a 5 MP one respectively.
The main cam does 4K video, OIS and F/1.7 aperture. The phablet runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow with TouchWiz on top and it’ll go on preorder tomorrow. Sales start officially on August 19th in USA, with all big carriers offering it. The Note 7 will get a free Gear Fit 2 in some areas. Color versions are Blue Coral, Silver Titanium and Black Onyx.
The new S Pen has Air Command features and a tip measuring just 0.7 mm, plus it offers high sensitivity. The Note 7 can also be used in tandem with the new Gear 360 camera, to edit, record and share 360 degree videos. The newcomer has been promoted in tandem with its “family members”, like the Gear Fit2 and Gear IconX, in order to track fitness tats via S Health 5.0.
And for those of you wondering about size, the Note 7 is 7.9 mm thick and weighs 169 grams. It also brings LTE Category 12, 10 and 9.
