Smartphone ownership is increasing, or so says a ChangeWave survey research that took place on June 9-15. 37% of the respondents said that they own a smartphone, while 14.4% of all people questioned mentioned that they plan on buying one in the next 90 days.
The survey comprised 4063 respondents and also determined that, as far as market share is concerned, Research in Motion leads the pack, as the market share leader with 41%. Next comes Apple with 25% and Palm, with 7%. What’s interesting is that many of those questioned plan on buying a Palm smartphone in the next 90 days, 8%, double the amount before Pre was launched.
44% of those planning to buy a new smartphone in the following 3 months claim that the handset will be an iPhone, showing the impact of the iPhone 3GS, iPhone OS 3.0 and price cuts. Of these future Apple iPhone buyers, 21% will purchase a 16GB iPhone 3GS (going for $199), 17% a 32GB iPhone 3GS (going for $299) and 5% an 8GB iPhone 3G ($99).
