After the Sony Kumquat handset was found as being rebranded to Xperia U last week, now the Nypon follows on the same path, becoming Xperia P. Sources say that this rebranding straight to letters after the Xperia series is inspired by the Vaio series. Sony apparently wants to have a more organized portofolio of devices, so the tablets, phones and laptops will all get letters after the series name.
For example we have the Sony Vaio P laptop, the Sony Xperia P phone and the Sony Tablet P… and we also have the Sony Tablet S and the Xperia S. Now you get it? Back to the Nypon, the handset that’s rumored to be pictured above, now called the Xperia P will be a midrange phone with a qHD display, 1GHZ CPU and probably a 5Mp or 8MP camera to keep with the rest of the midrange specs. Xperia P is supposed to run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, which is always a good thing, no matter how well specced the phone is.
Every company out there seems to be adopting the “S” as a moniker for the flagship, so right now the Xperia S is the top of the line. Rumors say that we should expect an Xperia Z with incredible high end specs and an Xperia X that’s actually a new PlayStation follow. We’ll see… at MWC 2012!
