Taiwanese touch panel maker TPK has good predictions about orders for products having to do with fingerprint recognition. They see these orders coming from the likes of Coolpad and ZTE this year.
From 2015 onwards for about two years, the technology is said to have a growth rate of 80%, driven by demand from larger Chinese vendors. Pricing is very important here, when it comes to the technology’s entry on the Chinese market, as the local vendors are pushing low priced solutions forward in order to keep the market share. TPK is one of the main suppliers of such panels, together with O-Film and Synaptics.
They’re expected to release new products in the second half of 2015, probably with a higher PPI and improved print recognition. In the meantime we hear that even big companies have trouble with implementing fingerprint scanners, since Google and Motorola wanted one on the Nexus 6, but couldn’t make it happen.
