There’s a new rugged phone in town, the ViewSonic A8+ model, that was announced today sporting an unusually old flavor of Android. The device runs Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and offers support for CDMA and GSM connectivity.
This model has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor on board, a quad core unit clocked at 1.2 GHz, as well as a 5 inch LCD HD display and an 8 megapixel back camera. There are dual SIM slots on board, Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity support and WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, as well as 1 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage. The battery is a 3000 mAh unit and the only color available here is vivid orange.
China Telecom will be selling this unit, that adopts a pretty narrow format, physical buttons and a rugged case. This model measures 18.3 mm in thickness, weighs 270 grams and it comes with a high precision positioning system feature. This one is meant as an outdoors device, rather than indoors.
