You can easily put money on Vivo and Oppo to innovate when no one else is doing it, since they’ve taken R&D up a notch over the past years. Oppo has 5X optical zoom, Vivo has been achieving great stuff in acoustics and selfie cameras. Today we’ve come across a picture or two of the Vivo Xplay 7, a handset that’s yet to be announced and seems to sport a triple back camera.

We already knew that the company was working on high end models like the X20 and X20 Plus, but the slides that leaked from a recent event hint that the X20 is actually the Xplay 7. The newcomer feels like a total flagship, with narrow format, a fingerprint scanner embedded in the screen and a triple back camera. There are also two cameras upfront.

Samsung and Apple have been rushing to implement fingerprint scanners within screen panels for a while now, but it appears that Vivo moved faster. They could be using Qualcomm’s latest ultrasonic technology to do that. The triple back camera is integrated here vertically and we may see something like a depth focused camera, a regular sensor and one for 3D/AR purposes.

We don’t have hardware specs for this model, but it certainly feels like a flagship. However, we’re not sure it will be ready for prime time this year. Also check out the screen upfront, with curved sides a la Galaxy S8 and also gently curved corners. Best case scenario we see it at IFA 2017.
