The Vodafone and O2 German carriers have just launched a new mobile payment service known as mpass, that uses direct debiting and SMS payment confirmation via mobile phones. So, turns out that we’ll do the online shopping on mobile portals now, simply by entering mobile numbers and an mpass PIN to proceed.

Afterwards, customers will receive and SMS to confirm the amount they’ve just had drawn from their bank account. The two carriers involved in the project claim that this payment method is far more secure, because it doesn’t require you to enter important personal data or credit card numbers.

Vodafone’s officials are very pleases with the new service, claiming that it will appeal to retailers and customers who are new to cyber-shopping.
