ZTE may not have had a big presence at CES 2013 in USA, but it will bring its big guns to MWC 2013. Aside from the likes of the Grand Memo 5.7 inch phablet, they will also bring a Firefox OS phone to the event. Said even takes place in Barcelona, close to the end of February.
The Chinese company already teased their cooperation with Mozilla through a hashtag on Twitter: “ZTEMozilla”. We knew that the two companies have been working together for a while, so expect some more products from ZTE with Firefox OS all over the world. Mozilla bragged about having quite a bunch of carrier partners all over the world, but their handsets only fit in the midrange and lower end segment, so no high end model just yet. The OS is based strongly on HTML5, it shows apps on all homescreens like iOS and it has a notification bar like the one on Android.
There are also various small similarities with the Nokia MeeGo OS, but only tiny ones. For now the platform is not finished and there’s a lot of work to be done before it’s finished and launched to the general public. The least they can do is beat all the other mobile browsers through Firefox OS…
